Abandoned pets in Lincoln County have been protected, cared for, and placed in their ''forever homes'' since 1987 by the Humane Society.

The low adoption fee includes spay/neuter, shots including rabies, microchip, 30 days of free pet insurance, and a starter bag of food.
The Humane Society has purchased 3.7 acres at 413 W. Highway 70 in Ruidoso with plans to build a new state-of-the-art shelter, replacing the current maxed-out structure. It will feature an adoption center in a park-like environment.
The new site already houses the expanded, thriving Humane Society Resale Shop, recently named ''The Best Thrift/Consignment Shop'' in Lincoln County by readers of the Ruidoso News. Donations of furniture, clean, gently used clothing, and household items are accepted and appreciated. Items may be dropped off at the Shop or call 575-808-8540 to arrange a pick-up for heavier or larger items. Hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Proceeds from sales make up a substantial part of the Humane Society's operations budget. It helps us to continue to shelter homeless animals and to conduct our other community programs.
