DESCRIPTION:Carrizozo Music offers a concert by the internationally acclaimed Shtrykov-Tanaka Duo on Friday\, April 21 at 7 PM. Comprised of two sensationally gifted virtuosi\, clarinetist Maksim Shtrykov and pianist Misuzu Tanaka\, the pair will play the music of Bach\, Rachmaninoff\, Von Weber and Polenc. Both artists are graduates of The Juilliard School and enjoy extensive international solo careers that have heard them in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall\, Germany's Leipzig Gewandhaus and Japan's Izumi Hall.\n\n\n\nEnthusiastic about chamber music\, Misuzu Tanaka has worked with prominent artists including James Dunham (Cleveland Quartet) and members of the National Symphony Orchestra. In 2012\, together with clarinetist Maksim Shtrykov\, she began touring throughout the United States as the Shtrykov-Tanaka Duo. Born in London where she began her piano lessons at age 5\, she continued her studies in Japan and in the United States with Martin Canin at The Juilliard School. Her Masters and Doctoral degrees are from University of Michigan where she was a full scholarship recipient and devoted much time to the study and performance of the works of Leo Jan ek. This led to further studies with Miroslav Brejcha and the late Ivan Moravec in the Czech Republic. \n\n\n\nAlready an acclaimed artist in his native Belarus\, clarinetist Maksim Shtrykov is quickly gaining renown as an artist of remarkable charisma and extraordinary musicianship. A recipient of the Artists International New York Debut Award\, Maksim presented his Carnegie Hall debut recital at Weill Hall in 2007. A passionate advocate of clarinet music\, he is on a continuous quest of expanding his instrument's repertoire\, bringing to light rarely performed masterpieces by forgotten masters. At 14 Maksim was awarded a solo orchestral debut with the State Chamber Orchestra of Belarus\, a performance that led to a series of concerto performances with the Belarusian State Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. He is a prize winner of many competitions including the Dmytro Bida International Woodwind Competition (Lviv\, Ukraine)\, Brahms Chamber Music Competition (Gdansk\, Poland)\, and "Salieri - Zinetti" International Chamber Music Competition (Verona\, Italy). He is also a two-time recipient of the President's Foundation Award "Young Talents of Belarus." Maksim Shtrykov holds a degree of Master of Music from The Juilliard School\, where he was a scholarship student in the celebrated studio of Charles Neidich.\n\n\n\nThe evening performance will be followed by a reception and opportunity to meet the musicians. \n\n\n\nA school outreach concert at 3 PM on Thursday\, April 20 in the Carrizozo School Old Gym also is open to the public. A Westaf/NEA grant has made it possible for the Shtrykov-Tanaka Duo to perform in Carrizozo.\n\n\n\nCarrizozo Music sponsors a series of classical\, summer pops and school outreach concerts with a commitment to providing free quality music to the residents of Lincoln County and surrounding area.
