"Off the Map" (2003): Filmed in and around Taos, this 2003 movie was originally a play. The addition of the New Mexico landscape, however, elevates a character study to a sublime coming-of-age story set in a magical place that is as beautiful as it is cruel. Joan Allen plays a free spirit living "off the map" with a precocious daughter and a husband (Sam Elliott) who suffers from debilitating depression. Into this tenuous mix, an IRS agent comes to conduct an audit. Rated PG-13 for brief nudity and adult situations.
