Dropping out of high school doesn’t pay off for everyone, but it does when you have immeasurable passion and work ethic like Bobby Flay. Flay dropped out of school at 17, working in numerous New York kitchens before catching the attention of Joe Allen, owner of Joe Allen’s Restaurant in Manhattan. Allen was so impressed by Flay’s natural ability that he paid for the recent drop out to attend the prestigious French Culinary Institute. Soon after graduating, Flay found a career changing love for Cajun food, which led him to his executive chef position and eventual ownership of Mesa Grill and it’s three locations. Flay’s success with Mesa Grill and his other restaurants like Bobby’s Burger Palace eventually got the ire of Hollywood, landing him repeated appearances on Iron Chef as well as 13 cooking shows and specials across the Food Network and Cooking Channel.

Bobby Flay will be at the epicenter of his specialty, southwestern cuisine, when he leads a live cooking demonstration at Inn of the Mountain Gods on Saturday, May 13. Tickets are $75.
